About Alfalfa
Also called lucerne in countries outside of the United States, Alfalfa is a perennial flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae. The alfalfa root system can reach a depth of 7 to 10 feet, and aids in improving soil quality by providing critical nitrogen fertility and soil protection against erosion. With its popularity as a forage crop, alfalfa is used for livestock forage and as a cover crop.
